Lithuanian Airports look for inspiration through ALIGHT

Lithuanian Airports’ journey is one of growth and ambition, inspired by experiences gained through the ALIGHT project. By first analysing data across carbon footprinting, energy audits, and reports, Vilnius established a clear baseline and set their priorities for improvement. With new strategic insights, the airport introduced advanced building management systems, upgraded lighting to energy-efficient alternatives, and began electrifying its ground vehicles — crucial steps on their path to climate neutrality.

One key challenge was piecing together fragmented sustainability data from across the organisation. The ALIGHT project provided practical solutions and international best practices, helping Vilnius streamline data collection and management. Now, the airport can easily track its carbon footprint and sustainability performance.

ALIGHT showcased the value of international cooperation, guiding Vilnius in prioritising renewable energy, electrification, and intelligent infrastructure. The lessons learnt have been woven into the airport's long-term strategy — ensuring Vilnius Airport continues to grow in the right direction.
