Discover how the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has contributed cutting-edge research and solutions as a core partner of the ALIGHT project.
This video showcases DLR's extensive measurement campaigns at Copenhagen Airport. DLR’s teams used their mobile lab to gather real-world data on emissions from airplanes using a mix of SAF blends and conventional fuels. They combined fuel sampling, on-site monitoring, and laboratory analysis to correlate specific fuel types with emitted pollutants.
The findings demonstrate that SAF does not just lower CO₂ emissions — it also reduces non-CO₂ effects such as sulfur oxides and the formation of aviation condensation trails (contrails), which play a significant role in climate change.
The video highlights how the DLR team brought scientific evidence from the lab to the runway, showing measurable environmental benefits in live airport settings.
